For the greater number of sprained ankles, using the PRICE approaches are recommended for 2 days after injury. By “PRICE” approaches we mean: protection, rest, ice, compression and elevation.

  • Protection: Use props or lay on a splint or brace in order to restrict use of wounded ankle.
  • Rest: Restrict physical activities which might cause pressure on the sprain.
  • Ice: Putting an ice pack on the ankle for 20-minute to decrease swelling.
  • Compression: Softly cover the ankle with an elastic bandage.
  • Elevation. Lift the injured ankle on pillows while you’re lying down.

Surgery is rare and uncommon to treat an ankle sprain. But in some cases that these mentioned approaches didn’t work, surgery is the best treatment of Ankle Sprains.
